For the past couple of months Ethos has collected over $300 for Genesee County Habitat for Humanity. Why you may ask? Because their mission is heroic! Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit organization “dedicated to eliminating substandard housing locally and worldwide through constructing, rehabilitating and preserving homes; by advocating for fair and just housing policies; and by providing training and access to resources to help families improve their shelter conditions.” In a nutshell they build good houses, for good people and for a good reason. There are over 1,000 community-level Habitat for Humanity organizations around the U.S. and many other projects going on internationally. That’s a lot! So they gladly accept our money donations but they also value our time. Check out their website here for volunteer and internship opportunities.
Speaking of donations another wonderful aspect of Habitat for Humanity is their thrifty resale store. Located across the street from the flint farmer’s market, they have an assortment of home improvement and building supplies. I recently bought a chair there...
and have also found doors, wood and other building gear to fix up my home. They sell paint, fixtures, furniture, beautiful salvaged wood and much more. The proceeds go towards Habitat for Humanity projects so not only are you saving money and finding what you need locally, you’re supporting a great cause too. Stop on by Tuesday–Saturday 9am-5pm to shop or to donate items. Reuse, reduce, recycle!
